Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

PUADEFCA001B - Observe and monitor hostile areas to detect targets

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?

Occupy and prepare a location

  1. An appropriate vantage point is occupied and concealment is maintained throughout the operation
  2. Occupied position is established
  3. Reference points are established and information is documented
  4. Possible threats are observed and monitored so an appropriate plan of action can be prepared

Detect target/s

  1. Target position is established via aural and visual observation, and bearing and distance are estimated
  2. Type of weapon (if present) is identified and classified through visual or aural recognition, or by crater analysis
  3. Enemy capability is estimated
  4. Hostile action is monitored from prepared position
  5. Communications with stakeholders is maintained so that relevant information can be provided
